Design Creation of an image, a look, an identity.
Hosting Keeping the files that contain the website content on a server so the website can be viewed over the web.
Domain Name A Website Address i.e. www.thewebsite.biz
Registration (of a Domain Name) When you register a domain name you are put down as the legal owner of the name.
Graphic Design/ Graphic Designer A skilled individual who produces material for branding and other marketing activity either for print or for use as a website design.
Website/ Web Site An internet ready page or pages providing information on a product or service offered. Can be used to trade online, as a form of entertainment or for informative purposes.
Development (Programming) Production of written code that all Websites, Databases and Software is based upon.
Developer (Programmer) Specialist code writers that use simple text pads to create a written language that all websites, databases and software is based upon.

Search Engine Enabled Elements required by Search Engines to enable the creation of a profile for search retrieval
SEO/ Search Engine Optimisation The technologies and methods used to increase the popularity of a website and show a higher listing in any search results.
Content Management The technology/application that allows website text and in some cases images, to be managed. See DMS.
Multi Level Access Different security access depending on the person logging into the websites secure area.
Order Content The ability to change the order in which blocks of text are displayed.
Live Changes Press SAVE and the changes made instantly appear on a website in real time.
Front Page A Microsoft application used to build websites.
FTP Access File Transfer Protocol used when uploading and downloading files.
STATS (Statistics) A secure area where website owners can see who and where a site's visitors have come from so that more specific marketing can follow.
SSL Certificates Secure Sockets Layer Certificates allow very secure information to be held on a website. Typically used where payments are taken during online transactions, shopping baskets etc.
Contract Development Typically a term used to employ the services of a developer or team of developers for purposes of completing a project either on or off-site.
Outsourced Development Typically a term used to employ the services of a developer or team of developers for purposes of completing a project usually off-site.
